Cornetite from Congo
Fascinating deep-blue crystals
Cornetite is a rare copper mineral from the oxidation zone of copper ores which is characterized by an attractive deep-blue to green-blue color. These remarkable specimens of this copper phosphate hydroxide, which is named in honor of the Belgian geologist Jules Cornet (1865-1929), come from the Star of the Congo Mine (L'Etoile you Congo mine) in the Shaba-copper belt, which is the type locality of this mineral.
